Ravelry is a fiber craft-hoarder's dream come true. Not only does it have fantastic networking capabilities, but you can show off projects past, present & future, and even keep track of supplies such as needles, hooks, books, and yarn!

In many parts of life, I am not terribly organized. In some, I am not at all. But an online user-friendly database to keep track of my fiber habit? This is love.

Today I cataloged a large tub (plus some assorted other bags & misc skeins) of yarn. Primarily acrylic, some that had been purchased for specific projects, some had even been started as those projects... others were oddballs, whose intended use, if there ever was one, had been lost to me. I don't know how much longer it will take to catalog the rest of my stash. Some has gone to the storage unit (before I became a Ravelry member - it's still in beta, so new members are invited in, based on a waiting list), so I'll likely take the laptop & put the info in a temporary Access db file, then upload it to Ravelry when I return home, to internet accessibility.

Ravelry allows users to search by yarn company, yarn name, project type, designer, user... there are probably other ways. Which is nifty if, for example, I'm trying to decide the best use for my 8 skeins of Moonlight Mohair in Coral Reef. I'd originally thought to use it for a shawl, but have since acquired a variety of shawls, so am looking in other directions for inspiration.

One of the nice things about the stash form is that there is a "stored in" field, so I labeled most of today's work as "Misc Yarn in blue tub" (as opposed to the "Misc Yarn in green tub" that will be cataloged later this week.

There are choices for handspun yarn as well as commercial yarn.

There are a number of social groups for spinning, weaving, knitting, crocheting, felting, etc. It's multi-use, which fits well into my dabbling habits.

I am so hooked on Ravelry, I swear to GAWD. I've been in love with them since I got invited and then discovered that I was already listed as a designer. All of a sudden I felt all important-- before I was just a chick who made strange knitted thingamajigs and deedlybobs, but now I'm a DESIGNER. Don't I feel fancy.

Designing is slowing down now as I am too absorbed with Ravelry to do more than half an hour of a project a day. Haha! What cruel fate...
